I have not had a giveaway before but to celebrate my return to blogging I am giving away two of these pretty pumpkin pincushions.

I love these little pincushions as you can tell by how many I have crocheted.

They are crocheted in Sirdar Calico DK which is 60% cotton but the look is like a soft chenille and such pretty colours.

I saw this pincushion on ravelry and fell inlove with it I just had to crochet it.

I have got numerous patterns for crochet pincushions and I want to make them all, they look so cute.

It was a little tricky to put together but the end result was worth it.

This next little pumpkin pincushion is a free design here .

It really is a joy to crochet because it is such an easy little pattern to follow

As you can guess there will be more pincushions to post later I hope you like seeing these.

Baby crochet

As you can see I have really got the crochet bug and I love it. I have already posted the blue baby afghan in my last post and I liked it so much I decided to crochet it in pink also.

For the little bottees I adapted the pattern and crocheted the tops in the same pattern as the edging on

the afghan. I thought they were so sweet and made a lovely little set.

My friend is expecting a baby girl so she will have the pink one.

I have loved crocheting again and had forgotten how relaxing it can be.

I 've lost count of the many things I have crocheted over the years for myself the children and also for the rest of my family.

The only things I have crocheted are doyllies I do like to have nice lacy doyllies I know they are a little old fashioned these days but I love them.

I have got more crochet to show you but I will leave that for my next post.

Blogging again

I am sorry to have been absent from blogging for such a long time. We decided to make some changes at home and it was longer than we expected, it was well worth it in the end, a bit of plastering here and there painting ,decorating, new carpets, furniture etc that sort of thing.
Then I had some health issues which took away my enthusiasm to do very much in the way of crafting and I thought I would never get my mojo back but thanks to my daughter Sarah who encouraged me to crochet I have made these throws and have really enjoyed crocheting again I found it very relaxing.
This first throw is a freebie from Attic 24.

This granny square throw is a vintage pattern from a magazine that I bought in the 70s and Sarah and I found it pictured in the Molly Makes magazine I made the smaller version for Sarah when she was a baby and could not resist doing this one again. If you visit Sarahs blog on the link above you can see her lovely work plus she has posted the pattern for this throw.

You will notice that both throws are done in the same colours to match each other.

This was a very quick and easy little afghan and I really enjoyed crocheting it.

I have managed to do some cross stitch during my absence but have not finished them into anything yet but I can feel my mojo returning at last and am happy to be almost back to normal thank for visiting and please come back soon. Take care.

Forget me not

I finished this little set a while ago but have just got around to taking the photos.

I added a crystal bluebird to the pinkeep.

I loved the Design so much that after I finished the pinkeep I decided to add these little extras.

I made this little box using the instructions from Judy O Dells Flatfold and Friends book.

It is all hand sewn and lined with Blue Dupion silk I added another forget me not in a little silver antique jewellery frame,and as a finishing touch I added the silver lock and key charms.

Here is the inside of the box with the scissor fob.

This is the back of the scissor fob with my initials sewn one over one.

Lastly this is the side view of the pinkeep showing the ribbon I used which matches the scissor fob.

I stitched it all on 32ct antique white linen and used the threads recommended by Dany.

Fee Initial M

I have made this darling little fee initial into a small lined draw string bag using 28ct white linen and DMC thread 3740.
The chart is from another one of my Marabout books called Fees by Agnes Delage-Calvert and Anne Sohier- Fournel.

I made another little pincushion in the same fabric which I thought matched the DMC 3740 perfectly, I love adding these little accessories to give a finishing touch.

I also made the scissor fob it's one of many that I 've made and this one went well with the bag and pin cushion.

The dainty white fabric on the back of the bag is the same as the lining and also the back of the pincushion.

Petit Chat

Another finish - Tralala free Petite Chat, I decided to stitch it in DMC black on this 32ct Natural linen which I think is a lovely contrast but I didn't realise it would be so difficult to match a fabric for the back so I have used the natural linen and embellished it with a scissor pocket and some hearts taken from the chart.

I used a very narrow black ric rac on the sides of the pinkeep. I like the look of the narrow edging.

I then got carried away and made a scissor fob and a pincushion to finish it as a set.

I must say I am really pleased with how it has turned out.

French Angel

A pretty angel from the red book made into a little pincushion and trimmed with beads.

It is stitched on 32ct antique white linen with thread DMC 815. I have used Mill Hill beads and stitched a double row of 4 sided stitch around the edges in DMC blanc.

This is the back of the cushion.

I love this little french angel and have stitched her several times which I will post as soon as I have decided on a finish.

Look what I got for my birthday

It was my birthday last Friday and my daughters Carol and Sarah spent the day with me as they always do on my birthday. I had a wonderful day my DH gave me an iPhone and the girls gave me money but they made me these fantastic presents to put the money in I am sure you will agree that I am very lucky to have such talented children.

I absolutely love this angel and really enjoyed stitching her she is so beautiful and as soon as I bought this book of angels I knew I was going to love stitching them.

I trimmed her with narrow white ric rac as you can see as I thought it was delicate and angelic like.

This is the back I used a very delicate white fabric.

I could not resist making a little matching pillow.

I stitched this 1 over 2 on 40ct antique white linen with DMC 318.

Lily of the valley my birthday flower

I love the lily of the valley it is the May flower the month of my birth and it is the flower of Flora day in Helston Cornwall. On May the 8th everyone wears a buttonhole of the lily of the valley and there is dancing in the streets I have wonderful memories of this festive occasion especially when my chidren danced the floral dance. The perfume from the lily of the valley always bring back wonderful memories of when as a little girl my grandmother would every year take me to flora day where there was always a fair and lots of stalls in the street and of course the dancing. I was born in Marazion but did live in Helston for a while where as a child I also danced in the floral dance. When I was married we lived in Helston and that is when two of my chidren Roy and Sarah danced through the streets with their school.
I always get a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat when the brass band starts and the little children all dressed in white are dancing behind. I now live in Plymouth but on Saturday I will once again join in the festivity when I go to Helston for Flora Day,and memories once more will come flooding back and tears no doubt will be shed.

This is a little pillow stitched in memory of all the flora days.
The design is by Dany and is stitched on 32ct natural linen 2 over 2 with the recommended DMC threads.

Here is another cherub made into a little pillow with my initial on it.

Lettre d'Amour is a french design by Couleur d' Etoile I just could not resist this little cherub. It is stitched 1 over 1 on 28ct cream linen with DMC threads 452 950 3023 3860.
This is the back of the pillow just with the cream fabric which is a very pretty small floral design.

Another cherub from my hobby bucket. Lots more to come but I am at last getting them finished.

Its been along time since I posted and its incredible how quickly the time has flown I have been kept very busy as DH took a few months off work to make some changes to our home, we have nearly finished what we planned to do and I have at last been able to take these photos for my blog. This little cherub has been sat in my hobby basket along with a lot of other little cherubs and angels for over a year waiting to be finished and posted so there will be more cherubs and angels posted soon along with a few other stitched things needed to be finished and I am not going to be staying away so long in the future.
I have made this into a little hanger for my daughter Sarah as it will match her newly decorated bedroom.

I have used a lovely William Morris fabric for the back of the cushion in these lovely shades that matches the DMC thread 3768 perfectly

It was all stiched 1 over 1 on 28ct cream linen.

Blackbird Designs Country Garden

I am back from my holiday and at last I have got around to adding my latest completed stitching. I made the box about a month before I went on holiday but needed to add the cord and tassels, I managed to do this a week or so ago, since then I have been wanting to photograph it to put on my blog but DH has been home and I never seemed to be able to get them taken until today.

Design is stitched 1 over 2 on 36ct Edinburgh linen in antique white using WDW and GA threads as listed on the chart.
I followed a tutorial for the box from Judy Odell's book The Flatfold and friends.
I chose Blackbird designs Harvest Home for the fabric as the colours matched so well with the colour of the threads

The box is all hand sewn and padded and is really lovely to feel.

I made the corded and tasseled scissor fob and the bead just added that extra touch. It looked such a good match and was one I had already in my bead collection.

I am very pleased with how it turned out.

I wanted to make this design from Barb & Alma into a needlebook and over the bank holiday weekend I had the time to do it.

I also made this beaded scissor fob to put my gorgeous little hornbook on, it is so sweet my initials are engraved on it. It was made for me by Bloom Woodworks

A Noel ornament

Another finish at last.
This beautiful design is a free chart which can be downloaded from here.

I stitched the design 1 over 1 with DMC threads 815 & 321 on 32 ct Natural linen. It was stitched mainly on holiday in Tenerife last November. I have taken ages to decide on the finishing but am happy to have it as an ornament, one of many I am aiming to do by Christmas for a special little tree.

Petites Lettres Rouges

My needle has been very busy this weekend as I wanted to finish this little sampler for the contest at Blackbird Designs I added my initials and also added the word NEEDLES at the bottom of the sampler because I would like to finish it as a needle case at some future date.
We had to add a bird to the design and I got mine from a blackbird design which I thought was appropriate.
I really enjoyed stitching this little piece although I had only the weekend to do it as I only found the blackbird blog on Thursday but I did not start it until Saturday.

I never thought I would finish it in time but was so pleased I did.

I stitched the sampler 1 over 1 on 28ct zweigart cashel linen the colour is Vintage Country Mocha the photo does not do the fabric justice I used DMC threads 321 498 & 815.

My first pinkeep

I cross stitched this piece just after Christmas and have been longing to make it up. I had never made a pinkeep before and I was a little hesitant about starting. For a first attempt I am quite pleased with the result and hopefully my next one will not take me so long to start, and be a little quicker to make up now I have more idea of what I'm doing.

I stitched it 1 over 1 on 32ct belfast linen using DMC 498.

Lets garden with Grandad

It was such a lovely day today and DH spent some time tidying the garden, it was lovely smelling the newly mown grass it made me realize that summer was on the way.
My daughter Sarah popped in with Amy on the way to meet Ben and Charlotte from school, Amy loved running around in the garden and did'nt want to leave but she also didn't want Mummy to go so Sarah promised her she could come back with Ben and Charlotte on the way home.
Well every one wanted to help Grandad and the result was muddy school clothes and shoes,Sarah is so good wth the children she just said it will all clean up Mum and the children are having such a good time.
Here are some photos of the days events.

Ben and Charlotte loved digging in the garden and Amy really enjoyed herself.
Then it was home where Mummy bathed them all straight away before tea.

Acryllic book

I had fun putting this book together with photos I took on a day out to Marazion in Cornwall. I was born in Marazion and spent many happy hours playing on the beach and walking over to St Michaels Mount.
It was great to go back and show my grandchildren and watch them play on that same beach.

My daughter Sarah took me to our local craft shop in the week and I could not resist these gorgous fabrics to add to my stash

I was pleased that the blue matched the threads so well as I am stitching with that thread at the moment and can't wait do the finishing.

Talking about stash I recently recieved these charts from Keepsake Stitches and will be sewing them in this 32ct linen. The colour on the chart looks very blue but it is infact stitched in the mint green and peach colours.

Here is more stash I recieved as a Mothers day present from my daughter Carol, I am so excited to have this Just Nans 15 sided biscornu.

Carol also gave me one of the Charm Garden Pins to get me started there are several you can collect but I love this bee one its my favourite.

I love playing with my stash and I have plenty to play with.

Instead of just admiring it I think I had better start some serious stitching.

I am starting to get a few finishes done to my recent cross stitch. I realise its a little late for Christmas ornaments but I hope you will like it.
I will still be stitching christmas ornaments along with other things throughout the year and hope to do enough to warrant their own little christmas tree.
I have quite a few stitching smalls already done awaiting the finishing and will post a photo when each one is finished.
This ornament is a complimentary design from Windy Willows. I stitched it 1 over 1 on a 32ct linen fabric using DMC 115.

Blogging at last

I have actually decided to blog for the first time in 18 months. I thought it was time to update and tell you what I have been up to lately.
I went on several holidays in 2008. In June I visited Tenerife this is where I go at least once a year it has become home from home to DH and I and it would not be the same without my yearly visit there.These are some photos I took last year.

In August we went to Capetown in South Africa to visit my daughter Debra and her husband Nigel. It was wonderful, we took hundreds of photos and visited so many places,and of course it was so great to be with my daughter on her 25th wedding anniversary, she had no idea we were coming we just turned up at the party, her face was a picture.

This is a Blue ribbons design, I have been doing quite a bit of cross stitching since I last blogged and am really enjoying it. I am torn between my love of cross stitch and scrapping. I will post photos of my recent stitching soon when I have done the finishing on them.

I have my moments when I change hobbies, I have also been knitting and crocheting but I have cross stitched for years and am enjoying it so much at the moment.

We also visited Portugal in October and took my Mum with us, and then back to Tenerife in November just DH and myself so although I haven't blogged for a long time I have been kept busy.

Sarahs Class

I cannot believe it's been so long since I last blogged.

My daughter Debra has been home from South Africa for two weeks, it was great having her with me but I was very sad to see her go back,I took a while to get myself back to normal, if you can say you ever feel normal when one of your chidren leave to live so far away.

After Debra left I had to have some dental work done which I was not looking forward to, I have now had some of it done and get it finished in November. These are the reasons I haven't felt much like blogging but I am going on holiday to Tenerife on the 12th October and am sure I will come back with my usual zest for scrapping blogging etc.

I have at least done one LO which is a MOJO class by my daughter Sarah Youde.

At last

I have actually got around to doing some blogging today, I seem to have been kept very busy lately but not really doing much, I don't know where the time goes.
I have been doing some crochet, I wanted to make some flowers as they seem to be popular at the moment, I love crochet and have done it for years doylies baby clothes dresses and jackets for myself when I was younger,and also crochet dresses for Sarah when she was little so I had to give the flowers a go. Here is a close up of one

and these are the ones I made last night.

I have got myself a new camera its a Canon 400D I am really excited about it but have not used it yet. I have not read up about it, I am sure I will love using it when I know a bit more about it.
I have also got a new addition to my scrap room which I am really thrilled with, its a clip it up and it is fab, I can see all my stickers alphas etc at a glance so much easier than scrabbling through a drawer and messing every thing up. I love it.

It was Sarah and Marks wedding anniversary on the 24th July and here is a card I made for them.

I have not done much paper crafting lately and I feel quite ashamed considering the amount of stash I have. Since I was unwell a couple of weeks ago I haven't seemed to get back into it but I'm hoping my mojo will return soon.

Happy Homecoming

Well the weather hasn't got any better here since I last blogged, It would have been nice to have had some sunshine this morning to meet the HMS Ocean on her return to Devonport where Sarah Ben Charlotte and myself went to welcome home Mark Sarah's husband (my son in law). Ben and Charlotte were so excited to be meeting Daddy off the big ship but I am afraid we got a soaking in the rain while we waited for the Ocean to pull up along side, it was quite a long wait and I think the children thought they were never going to see Daddy and at one stage Charlotte was crying for her Daddy and Sarah had to console her that daddy would be here soon

I was so happy to have been invited to share this special day with them.
Charlotte and Ben were so glad to have their Daddy with them, and it goes without saying that Sarah was very happy.
Mark took us on board and showed us where he had been living for the last 3 months.
All in all it was worth the wait and the rain, it turned out to be a lovely memorable day.
Here are some pics of the Ocean arriving, they are not brilliant as it was really wet and there was a crowd of 500 people there but they are a nice reminder for me.

There is a very happy family across the road.

New layout

It's Sunday and it has not stopped raining so what with the weather being so bad and the fact that the family all seem to be poorly with colds and flu like symptons there has not been anything exciting happening here at the moment.
I went over the road to Sarah's last night and we had our own little crop where we started to make our journals to join scrapdolly's project, All MY OWN WORK. Sarah did wonderful and her journal is gorgeous I got my covers made but am not sure about the patterned paper I have used so I am going to give it a bit more thought before I carry on.
I did at least manage this LO of Sarah and Charlotte when she was a baby, it is 11x81/2 and its the first time I have done a LO in that size and I must say I really enjoyed doing it.

I think I am going to do more in this size, but for now I am going to have another go at my Journal for Karen's project.

Well at last I have managed to do a LO with my Heidi Grace stash.
This is Sarah Ben and Charlotte in the garden in May this year when supprise supprise it was a lovely warm and sunny day, it was fun having the children around after school to play in the garden but now the weather has been miserable and its not possible as the grass is wet, I have a big drive and they can play up and down that on their scooters which they did on Sunday but it's not the same without the sunshine, let's hope it will not be long before it makes an appearance again, hopefully to stay a while.

The colours are a lot nicer in real life.

The postman delivered my Heidi Grace order today, I love her designs this is the Heart Kit its great and I keep touching all the the embossed velvet flowers it's gorgeous.

Well its Monday again nothing much to say about the weekend it was a wash out, in more than the fact that we had a lot of rain, DH decided he would have to work on Saturday.
On Sunday Geoff: enjoyed his Fathers Day but the weather wasn't great so apart from going to the supermarket it was another day at home. I had intented to do some seious scrapping in the afternoon but got on the computer and that was the end of that.

My daughter Sarah and the children came for tea with us,it was a nice fathers day treat for Grandad as he loved seeing the children. They rang him during the day and he loved that.

I spent most of the evening watching TV as I wanted to see who won Britains got talent, I was happy that Paul Potts won as I think he deserved to, but there was a lot of talent in the final, what about gorgeous little Connie? she sang beautifully and was just so cute I'm sure she has a glittering future ahead, such confidence in one so young. Good Luck for the future Connie.
Now I am going to spend this afternoon in my scrap room and see what inspiration I can find amongst all my fab stash.

Weekend

Its Friday and I get so excited as I really look forward to the weekends, no alarm clocks going off early in the morning and no time schedule as such to keep to so to a certain extent I can do my own thing, which means lots of time in my craft room even if I don't do a lot of crafting I love looking at all my yummy stash, but I have lots of crafting things I have planned to do. Of course the weekend also means that if the weather is good we may get to go some place where I can take lots more photos and enjoy being out and about where ever it may be.
I have at last got a photo of the birthday card I made for Sarah ( I pinched off her blog hehe)

I have also done this LO of Charlotte from a photo taken last weekend at Marazion, bless her she was poorly last night but is much better now thank goodness, I hate it when the little ones are sick its so frightening for them as they can't understand whats happening.

Fun day out in Cornwall

It's been a busy but enjoyable time here over the last week we had my daughter Sarah's birthday on the 4th, her sister Carol my eldest daughter visited for the day to celebrate with us it was nice once again for us to be together on a special day. I did a little teaparty for Sarah and the little ones. Sarah enjoyed her day and you can find out how much if you visit her blog here.

The weather was mainly bright and sunny last week and we spent most days having fun times in the garden with Ben & Charlotte after Ben got home from school.

Yesterday we went to Cornwall for the day, first we visited Flambards where Ben and Charlotte had a great time on the rides. This is the balloon thet they went up in,they loved it

After spending time on the rides we went to see the Britain in the Blitz experience it felt so real and it made you realize what terrible times our people lived through in those days.

From there we went on to the Victoria Village which again is so realistic you can really get the feel of what it was like. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was glad we went although we didn't get to see it all as our main visit was to go to the beach at Marazion to go across the causeway to St Michaels Mount. When we got there the tide was in too far and by the time it was fully out it had started to rain so we decided against it just incase it worsened. It gives us an excuse to visit again soon.

It was very nostalgic for me as I was born in Marazion and spent all my summers on the beach or across the Mount, my Mother used to work for Lord St Leven who owned the Mount before he handed it over to the National trust. I remember going to the church on St Michaels Mount as a young girl and realising that my pew lifted up, after the service Lord St Leven lifted the seat up to reveal stone steps leading to a dungeon were there were large skeleton bones suppose to have been belonging to the Giant that lived there many years before. I also collected old pennies from holiday makers and laid them along the causeway from the Mount to the beach for the red cross. I remember having a wonderful childhood at Marazion, it was so good to be there yesterday.

We all had a great time.

When we left Marazion we went to Helston to our favourite fish and chip shop and had some of their lovely fresh cod mmm it was delicious. Then back home all tired and happy.

Just a quick blog before I go and cook tea as I am looking after Ben & Charlotte for Sarah to go to her school reunion tonight. I will be able to watch the television and relax without thinking I ought to be doing jobs around the house or being disturbed by the telephone. Quite looking forward to it.
I haven't got much scrapbooking done lately I have done a LO for Pencil lines which I can't show here at the moment but here is one that I started at the last Exeter crop and have at last finished it was a class by Janice Warren and I am quite pleased with how it turned out

I can't wait for the Exeter crops to start again as I am missing them already, Fi aka Srappybunny from UKS runs them but she is moving house at the moment and will start up in her new home town when she is settled and has chance to organise them, I hope it won't be too long before they start again.

Must go and prepare my meal don't want to keep Sarah waiting as I'm sure she is excited about seeing her old school friends, would love to see them all when they get together lol.

Birthday

Well its bank holiday and typical weather when the children are on half term, I really hope it gets better as Sarah and I are planning to take the children out for the day on Tuesday.

I had a birthday on the 21 May and had lots of visitors, my son Roy visited me in the morning with a card and present, then my daughters Carol & Sarah arrived they nearly always visit me for the day on my birthday and mothers day and I always look forward to them coming it is one of the highlights on special days to have them share them with me,when Sarah was living in Mullion last year it just wasn't the same but it was lovely still to have Carol with me so I consider myself very blessed to have such wonderful daughters. My daughter Debra rang me from South Africa to wish me happy birthday.

I had a wonderful surprise later in the day when my Mother and sister arrived it was so good to see them and especially that my sister came as it was her birthday also, she is not my twin she is my younger sister born on my birthday and I can't remember the last time we spent a birthday together. I had lots of presents and flowers from Geoff: and among my presents were these gorgeous handmade gifts from Carol and Sarah which I absolutely love I am so proud to have such gifted daughters this is the Bourse that Carol stitched for me.

and when it is opened out it says the best gifts are tied with heart strings with little pink heart treasures sewn on each side and these are what Sarah made a beautiful card a Maze book of all the little cute things to remember about Ben and Charlotte and the bag she made to put it in

It was a lovely birthday.

Shopping with Ben

I promised to take my grandson Ben into Plymouth on the bus one day so yesterday I met him from school he was surprised to see me and excited when I said we would get a bus and go shopping. He loved it on the bus as he usually goes in the car and was very interested in the baby that was on the bus and asked me if I could get one lol.

We didn't have a lot of time, I had to go to the bank and then we went to Woolworths where Ben bought some sweets with the his pocket money and I was very impressed that he also bought some for his sister Charlotte.

After going to his favourite shop Disney we didn't have a lot of time left as Grandad was meeting us at 6 o'clock and we had to get to Macdonalds for our tea before then, but he was very happy with his purchases from Disney that Nanny bought him as you can see here.
We also went to the Build a Bear shop but it was only a fleeting visit as it was almost closing time Ben loved this bear in the photograph with him so we decided we would visit Build a Bear another day and go and get our Macdonalds before it was too late and Grandad would be waiting for us.
All in all we had a great time and went home with promises of doing it again soon.

It was lovely to have him on his own he was so well behaved I was proud of him.

Just a little about me

Well it has turned out to be a lovely sunny day here in Plymouth I have just popped across the road to see my daughter Sarah and my two youngest grandchidren Ben & Charlotte, it was good to see them having fun in the garden, hope the weather has decided to stay warm for a while.
I have two other daughters Carol and Debra and a son Roy. Carol also lives in Plymouth but Debra lives in Capetown South Africa something I found very hard to come to terms with but she loves it in South Africa and comes back home quite often to visit, one day I hope to visit her. My son Roy lives in Callington Cornwall and I see him often.
Carol is married to Colin and they have two sons Jason & Matthew. Jason since finishing his Degree and Post Grad at Cardiff University now works as a review editor on a music magazine in London. Matthew who has hopefully decided he will go to University after all is also very clever.
Roy is married to Theresa and they have two daughters Laura & Kimberely who both attend Plymouth High School and are doing very well.
Sarah my youngest daughter is married to Mark and Mum to Ben & Charlotte my two adorable youngest grandchildren. Ben is five and Charlotte is four, I get to see them every day as they live just accross the road.

I have been wanting to start my blog for ages but now I feel is an ideal time . We have had such good news in the family over the last week, my very talented daughter Sarah has been recognised as the brilliant scrapper that she is and is now one of the designers on Scrapgenie I am so proud. Previously her LOs were accepted on the Basic Greydesign gallery which is also a great achievement, thats not all she was UKS layout of the week last week and has had LOs published in Scrapbook Magazine. Now isn't that something for a mother to be proud of?

This morning I had two LOs accepted on theBasic Grey design gallery which I am showing here. So as you can imagine we are all happy scrappers.
